Dr. Leahcim Semaj: Take a Mental Health Day

The focus on mental health has not waned, especially as persistent reports of crime and violence continues to heighten the fears of Jamaicans. But those responsible for keeping citizens abreast of most, if not all the happenings in and outside the country, are being reminded to protect their sanity.

Most importantly, everyone is being encouraged to take a mental health day. Journalism no doubt requires a commitment to remain professional even in the face of adversity, as the news must go on. But the demanding nature of the  job often takes a toll on the mental health of reporters; particularly as murders become more and more barbaric, sometimes hitting close to home. Quantum Transformation Psychologist, Dr. Leahcim Semaj is imploring journalists to take time to recharge. He says even professionals like himself, have to find a coping mechanism.

Dr. Semaj asserts that taking a day or two is absolutely necessary in protecting one’s sanity.
