Stakeholders Warn Against Alcohol Abuse

Education campaigns about responsible alcohol consumption are again being taken to the forefront, especially in light of the recent reopening of the entertainment sector.

Brewery, Red Stripe and the PSOJ have partnered to host a series of town halls to provide detailed information on responsible drinking, and the dangers of alcohol abuse. Following the reopening of the entertainment sector, stakeholders have held the first of several town hall meetings on responsible alcohol consumption, seeking to educate sector workers and patrons of the repercussions of overindulging in alcohol.

Speaking at the event, Entertainment Minister Olivia Grange says the topic of responsible drinking will continue to be placed at the forefront, as she notes alcohol abuse is named a cause for many societal ills. Senior Superintendent of Police Stephanie Lindsay, who was a panelist at the event, is encouraging persons to seek designated drivers, who are not involved in the event.

She says it’s more effective than having a designated driver who is also partying, even if they’re consuming less alcohol than the other attendees in that group. The event was organized by the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) and Red Stripe
