The Latest Declaration of a State of Public Emergency

“Sometimes consensus is harder to build than to get things done” those are the words of Prime Minister Andrew Holness, in response to ongoing criticism of his administration’s repeated use of the States of Public Emergency as a tool to temporarily reduce the rate of murders. He says that perceptions of the declaration as a method of shock and awe are misplaced. To discuss the latest declaration of a States of Public Emergency (SOPE) in eight parishes as well as for a reaction to the press conference we are joined by Security Expert Bobby “Finzi” Smith and President of the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA), John Mahfood.
