Manchester taxi operator, Orlando Powell, was discharged Friday morning in relation to the May 6 mob killing of 61-year-old Chieftin Campbell, when he appeared in the Manchester Parish Court for a committal hearing.
Presiding Judge Monique Harrison upheld a no-case submission by Powell’s attorney Yolando Kiffin. The attorney argued that there was no evidence linking the defendant to Campbell’s death.
Powell was charged earlier this year after an autopsy report revealed that Campbell died from blunt force trauma after he was beaten on May 6 in Mandeville. The police said Campbell was mistakenly identified as a thief.
The ruling did not sit well with Porus Division Councilor, the Jamaica Labour Party’s Claudia Morant-Baker. She says there are unanswered questions.
