Tropical Storm Grace Impacts North Eastern Parishes

Fast-forward to 70 years after a deadly cyclone on August 17, 1951, Tropical Storm Grace, though not so tragic, frequent outbreaks of heavy rainfall and winds from the storm left many Jamaicans in fear as she ravaged the country.

Several roads in the corporate area were flooded and rendered impassable. In sections of Downtown Kingston, many motorists tried to brave the high waters to get to their destinations, and strong winds from the storm caused containers at the Kingston Wharves to topple.

Members of the homeless community sought refuge on the steps of the Supreme Court, had mixed feelings as a some were concerned about the intensity of the storm, while others were contented with waiting it out.

On Spanish Town road, a truck carrying over 20 vendors had to be pulled out of a pothole after it got stuck.

Communications Manager at the National Work Agency, Stephen Shaw, says Tropical Storm Grace impacted some 24 roads.
