Jamaicans for the second time since 1961 will be asked to partake in the country’s decision to replace the constitutional monarchy with a republic status.
CVM LIVE’s Kimberly Henry gauged responses from locals as to what a referendum means and what’s required of them. On Wednesday a 14-member constitutional reform committee chaired by Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs, Marlene Malahoo Forte was named.
The execution of the road to the republic will be done in three phases.
Phase one entails the repatriation of the constitution of Jamaica, abolition of the monarchy, the establishment of the republic of Jamaica, and all matters within the deeply entrenched provisions of the constitution for which a referendum is required to amend. Watch the report:
