Record 18 Plus Flights Weekly Between UK and Jamaica

Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism, Delano Seiveright has announced a record 18 plus flights per week between Jamaica and the United Kingdom starting this month; the move is set to continue through the winter tourist season. Seiveright is among a team from the Ministry including Minister Edmund Bartlett engaging with international stakeholders in London for the world travel market.

Three major UK airlines, Tui, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic will operate combined at least 18 flights per week with Jamaica through the winter tourist season this year. Tourism Strategist Delano Seiveright says this is a major achievement. The Tourism Ministry notes Jamaica is seeing a sustained surge in visitors from the United Kingdom all set to beat arrival and earnings records, with overall holidays to the country selling at 25 to 40 percent more than in 2019. This Seiveright says is attributable to the decision by Minister Bartlett to have his officials remain strategically focused in the global tourism space over the last two and a half years.

If projections hold the island should welcome well over 225,000 UK visitors. He’s however bemoaning labour challenges. Jamaica could also see more hotels being built to facilitate the growing tourism demands.

Meanwhile, British airways holidays told local officials at the world travel market in London, UK that the entity sold over 15,800 room nights for their British customers coming to Jamaica this year alone, nearly tripling what they sold in 2019, which was just under 5,800 room nights.
