The state-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), has written to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security requesting a back-to-work order for drivers who withdrew their services last evening and remained off the job, leaving commuters stranded.
In Downtown Kingston, vendors and commuters are feeling the effects. meanwhile, Corporate Communications Manager at JUTC, Cecil Thomas, in a statement says the strike action taken by drivers is a breach of the labour relations and industrial dispute act.
he further adds, the drivers, represented by the university and allied workers union, signed the new wage agreement earlier this month and were subsequently paid accordingly. up to news time, no explanation was provided to CVM LIVE by the union, to ascertain what led to the protest, which began at peak hour Wednesday evening.
