Hope Bay Portland Gets Free Wi-Fi Hot Spot

The people of Hope Bay, Portland are now benefiting from free public internet access under the Universal Service Fund’s Community Wi-Fi Programme. This is part of the government’s initiative to roll out three free Wi-Fi hot spots in each constituency- totaling 189 sites by March 2022, in an effort to bridge the digital divide.

Member of Parliament for West Portland and Technology Minister, Daryl Vaz says he’s particularly pleased when residents of rural Jamaica are provided with free internet access, thereby providing them with worthwhile opportunities.

Senior teacher at the Hope Bay All-Age School, Richard Whyte says everyone can now breathe a sigh of relief. The Custos of Portland while commending the universal service fund for facilitating internet access says it will only prove to be a catalyst for change if the tool is used wisely.

Using the Wi-Fi hotspot wisely also means taking advantage of digital training opportunities provided by the Flow Foundation
