PSOJ Targets Renewable Energy Solutions and Policies

In collaboration with  Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS)  and other key industry stakeholders, the Jamaican private sector took a significant step towards advancing Jamaica’s energy vision by hosting a Presidential Breakfast Panel Discussion. The event, titled “The Energy Mix: Embracing the Diversity of Energy,” centered its discussions on renewable energy solutions, strategies to alleviate the high cost of electricity in Jamaica, and the formulation of policies to facilitate this process.

Jamaica currently ranks 142nd out of 146 countries globally in terms of having some of the highest electricity charges, underscoring the urgency of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica’s, PSOJ, mission to drive transformative change in energy consumption practices. Metry Seaga, President of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica, pointed out that exorbitant energy costs are not only a burden but also a hindrance to economic growth. The forum placed particular emphasis on the 2030 objective of generating a minimum of 30% of electricity from renewable sources, aligning with existing government policies aimed at reshaping Jamaica’s energy landscape.
