Inmate Escapes from Tamarind Farm Correctional Centre

On Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 11:36 a.m., Acting Assistant Superintendent Levi Bryan of the Tamarind Farm Adult Correctional Centre reported an incident that the escape, Inmate Nathan Whitter, registered as #01-22-0145, with Criminal Record Office (CRO) number 851-2022. Inmate Whitter was incarcerated on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and was serving sentences of 2 years and 6 months, and 1 year and 6 months, respectively.

The escape took place while Inmate Whitter was part of a group of twelve inmates engaged in agricultural work on the correctional facility’s farm. They were under the supervision of Acting Officer of Supervision C. Grace, Senior Officer Moodie A, Corporal Simpson M, and Acting Corporal Bacchas C.

At approximately 9:50 a.m., correctional officers observed Inmate Whitter making a run for the main road. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, an alarm was raised, and officers initiated pursuit. However, Inmate Whitter managed to evade his pursuers. In response, a specialized team of officers, led by Acting Officer of Supervision N. Wilson, was promptly assembled to commence a search operation.

As of the latest update, the search for the escaped inmate is still ongoing. The incident has also been reported to the Spanish Town Police for their involvement in the case.

Law enforcement agencies are working to locate and secure the inmate, and further details will be provided as the situation develops.
