As Good as Gold? How Well Will JA Athletes Perform at the World Championships

September 21st  will mark the beginning of an exciting two-weeks for our Jamaican sports fans. With the 2019 World Championships around the corner, the time for our athletes to flaunt their national colors, black, green and gold as they line up against some of their greatest competitors is laced with anticipation and excitement. But how well are they expected to perform? Based on my observation, VERY WELL.

Since recently, we have seen a rise in the number of young athletes stepping into the international realm of sports and making a statement in their respective events. Whilst it is a plus, the measure of the performance of Jamaica’s team should not be based on how many medals they attain, but how well each athlete transition through their rounds. No doubt! We do have excellent young talents who can compete against the world’s best, but we should also take into consideration that apart from doing great, these youngsters are still learning.

The World Championships will run from September 27th to October 6th and will feature countries from all over the world, competing in various sporting disciplines. Jamaica declared its dominance at this event in 2009, by mining medals in abundance and numerous world records in the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4 x100-metre relays.
