Jamaica’s History Of Racism And Revolt

As America burns, fueled by the fight against racism, the Black Lives Matter movement has gained painful momentum with the recent police killing of George Floyd.

Thousands of protestors line the streets of every state in America, while similar showings of solidarity have taken place in international capitals from Tokyo to London.

However, in Jamaica does the messaging of the movement have meaning? Or are issues of class and colour more prominent exemplars of prejudice in the Caribbean context of the struggle?

To discuss the issues we are joined by Stephen Golding President of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), and Dr Christopher Charles Professor of Political and Social Psychology University of the West Indies.
