Difficulties Faced By Juveniles In Criminal Justice System

A Cabinet submission has been done to amend the child care and protection act to remove the discretion of judges to place children in Penal institutions via correctional order without charge. It’s an outcome that has been fought for in civil society as well as the legal fraternity for years. What are the difficulties faced by juveniles in the criminal justice system? The concept of uncontrollable children and alternative options for juveniles in conflict with the law. To discuss the implications of this development we are joined by Attorney-at-law, Isat Buchanan and Legal Officer for Jamaicans for Justice, Nastassia Robinson.
