WHO addresses new COVID-19 strain: With the recent rollout of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine, the World Health Organization (WHO) is concerned about the new strain of coronavirus outbreaks in the United Kingdom. A press conference was held on Monday, December 23, to discuss actions that will be taken in combating the virus.
The WHO on Monday held a press conference addressing the new variant of COVID-19 that sweeping across the UK.
Director General of the World Health Organization, WHO, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus explains that there is no proof that this new strain has added to the mortality rate.
Dr. Tedros says there’s collaboration between scientists and the W.H.O in understanding the complexities of the virus. He says the more the virus spreads, the more changes it will bring.
The WHO boss says in 2021, 4.6 billion US dollars will be needed for at least 20 percent of the population in low and lower-middle-income countries. He says this funding will be towards vaccination.
