Western St. Mary Community Gets Internet Access

Residents of Wood Park in western St. Mary seem to finally be joining the internet wave, after Ready TV and other stakeholders have partnered to launch a community Wi-Fi hotspot.

The community has previously been regarded as one that is unable to receive such resource due to its location. However, it’s now the first of nine communities in the area to receive internet connectivity. Wood Park, a community located in western St. Mary has received its first Wi-Fi hotspot after decades of being denied internet connectivity as its deep rural geographical location made it next to impossible to receive the signal needed to provide the much needed connectivity.

The community now boasts the title of being one of the first in western St. Mary to receive internet, after popular broadband internet company Ready TV/Ready Net partnered with the universal service fund to grant wood park residents their long-awaited wish.

Speaking at the official launch earlier this week, chief executive officer of Ready TV Chris Dehring said the move will benefit the residents on a greater level than merely allowing them access to social media platforms. Dehring said soon the connectivity will be dispersed throughout the square, in homes and in other communities.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament St. Mary Western Robert Montague said he’s overjoyed at the move. However, he warns against the dangers of the internet. Nine communities across western St. Mary are also expected to receive Wi-Fi hotspot in the near future.
