Tufton: “More Broad-Based Conversation Around Health, Not Just Clinical View”

During a discussion on the health of small island developing states, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton emphasized the impact of non-communicable diseases on these nations. He stressed that in order to address these health issues effectively, the conversation must shift away from solely clinical perspectives. Speaking at the Ministerial Conference on Non-Communicable Diseases and Mental Health for small island developing states in Barbados, Dr. Tufton highlighted the importance of tackling traditional choices that contribute to health challenges, particularly in terms of nutrition.

The Minister acknowledged that while technology can have negative effects on mental health, it can also be a powerful tool for disseminating positive information. In this regard, Jamaica is taking steps to digitize its systems in order to reach and engage with people more effectively. By utilizing technology, the country aims to encourage healthier choices and improve overall well-being. Watch the report:
