Tropical Storm Grace: NWA, JPS, NWC Carrying Out Analysis

As several customers of both the Jamaica Public Service, (JPS) and the National Water Commission, (NWC) had their services disrupted with the passing of Tropical Storm Grace on Tuesday, August 17. The utility companies are still assessing the extent of the disruptions that have occurred. Meanwhile, National Works Agency is currently evaluating the damage to the nation’s roads.

Communications Manager at the National Works Agency, (NWA) Stephen Shaw says the system impacted roads all over the country, but major damage was done in the Eastern end of the island. The scenes seen in Clarendon, Portland, Down Town Kingston, Molynes Road, Spanish Town Road, and the Bog Walk Gorge, was a telling tale of the damages left in the wake of the storm.

Shaw says up to midday on Wednesday, August 18 over 30 roads remained impassable. The NWA Communications Manager says the agency has already estimated the damage done, however, he did not disclose a figure. He says it will be submitted to the Government by the end of Wednesday, August 18.

Meanwhile, the NWC has started restorative work; however, some customers are still without water. The Commission is asking is asking the public for patience.
