'No Money' For Falmouth Craft Traders
Craft traders at the Seaboard Street Craft Market in Falmouth are beyond frustrated with the slow pace of business following the resumption of cruise tourism.
When CVM LIVE contacted Port Manager Mark Hylton Wednesday, he said he always encourages visitors to shop at the craft market but maintained that he cannot force them. He noted that the demographics of cruise ship passengers also affect sales, adding that one of the ships that docked Tuesday had mostly elderly passengers who preferred to stay on board or were more interested in a pedicab tour.
Additionally, Hylton said the Port Authority of Jamaica, which owns the market, has tried to ease the plight of the craft traders by absolving them of rent from March 2020 to December 2021. More details in the report:
