‘Salter’ Murdered at His Home in Brown’s Town, St. Ann

81-year-old Norman Campbell was found dead at his home in Brown’s Town, St. Ann. Goshen residents were left shocked after their sleepy community woke up to the news.

The deceased has been identified as 81-year-old Norman Campbell, a retired chef who many affectionately called ‘Salter’. Campbell was said to live alone in the downstairs apartment of his extended family dwelling.

Reports are about 1 o’clock Sunday morning a member of the household reportedly heard sounds similar to that of glass shattering in the vicinity of the room occupied by the deceased.

However, it was not until about 11:00 am that Campbell’s15-year-old grandniece went to give him breakfast when she noticed the front door was partially opened. She later discovered her uncle’s lifeless body. At first, the grandniece thought he died of natural causes but his surroundings told a different story.

Police say three wounds believed to be caused by a blunt instrument to the back of the head were observed.

Additionally, a piece of board was found in his room on the floor close to the door. One pane of glass louver window was missing and several pieces of glass louver were found outside below the window.

Campbell’s grandnephew who is still in disbelief says he could not possibly think of a motive for murder. He recounts fond memories of his granduncle. Police followed major leads and have so far landed two suspects in custody.
