Road Fatalities Dominate Easter Holiday Period

Despite the number of vehicular collisions over the extended holiday weekend, local authorities say that compared to last year, the numbers including deaths have declined., however, motorists need to stay alert. At least one dead in St. Ann, one in Clarendon, and two in Portland. Just a few of the reported fatal crashes on the nation’s roads over the Easter holiday period.

However, in parishes that welcome locals and tourists daily, these occurrences are more frequent. According to one police commander, these incidents are not only impacting the National Road Safety Council’s (NRSC’s) quarterly reports but also the officers who are pulled from their duty of serving and protecting. Head of the St. Ann Police Division, Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, says his parish, in particular, has seen an uptick in crashes.
