Riverside Gardens Residents Hung Out To Dry

Rain-soaked, sun-dried, rain-soaked, and repeat. Residents of the Riverside Gardens community in Duhaney Park are still reeling from the impact of last week’s heavy rain and despite getting relief from the government, they are preparing for the worst as tropical storm Theta is expected to make landfall this weekend.

Residents of Riverside Gardens, New Haven, Duhaney Park are beginning to pick up the pieces after living in floodwaters for three weeks.

This was the community during last weekend’s rainfall. And this was the state of the community when we visited on Thursday, November 12.  A team from the office of disaster preparedness and emergency management was also in the community assessing the damage.

The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation has been clearing the debris which is believed to be the cause of the flooding.

Back in the community, CVM Live noticed care packages being distributed by the Ministry of Social Security. However, there was confusion and little coordination; residents say their names were submitted to the constituency office for assistance but that system was not being used.

Food for the poor was also distributing water boots. He explains that the office is exploring relocation for some residents.
