‘Public Order Reset’ Underway in Montego Bay

The security forces and other government agencies continue to ramp up operations to restore public order. In St. Ann there is ‘Operation Leviticus‘ while in St. James there is ‘Restoring Paradise, a public order reset’, which will run for two weeks initially.

There will also be a mobile police station in the city; Monday marked the start of a 14-day multi-agency operation dubbed ‘restoring paradise, a public order reset’, in Montego Bay, St. James. Superintendent of police in charge of operations for the parish, Eron Samuels says they are bent on curtailing illegal vending, indiscipline among taxi operators and other pressing issues.  He adds that the Ministry of Health, National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), National Water Commission (NWC) and Jamaica Public Service (JPS) will also be coming on board.

Strengthening the public order push will be a permanent mobile police station equipped with cameras in the township. Although acknowledging her indiscipline, this vendor begged for leniency.  Head of the St. James Police Division Senior Superintendent Vernon Ellis says after the 14 days have passed, there will be an assessment for the continuation of the operation for at least another six months.
