Prime Minister Says More Reconstructions to Come

This year’s National Labor Day project, at the Mandela Park in Halfway Tree, prompted discussions of further reconstruction plans by Prime Minister Andrew Holness. He acknowledged works that need to be done across the island including adding more botanical gardens throughout the island, a park in Portmore, and upgrading the Mandela Park in Halfway Tree. Among these improvements are also talks of road reconstruction.

As part of the labor day initiative members of the Government of Jamaica were present at a renovation project at the Mandela Park on Monday. The initiative was directed towards the beautification of the park and preparing the country for the 60th Independence celebrations.

Prime Minister Holness during his presentation at the service, spoke at length about plans to begin road improvements in the country. He said road construction will be underway in Halfway Tree, and there are plans in place to rename 3-Mile after the former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller. Holness also stated that discussions are underway to improve the conditions of the Mandela Park, though it has not been decided if it will be relocated or not.  He added that the government is also focused on adding other parks.

The Labor Day Project, and plans for future construction, are anticipated to help reignite a celebratory mood for Jamaica’s 60th independence.  More details in this report:
