The Opposition is calling for a comprehensive look at the transport sector to create efficiency and productivity amidst the January 31 deadline to pay outstanding traffic tickets. The call follows the new Road Traffic Act 2018 which takes effect February 1, 2023 to prevent the harsh penalties of demerit points and other fines. Opposition Spokesperson on Transport and Works Mikael Phillips is calling for an extension of the reprieve January 31 deadline for persons who received court dates beyond the deadline.

While calling on the government to consider the suggestion he says the traffic courts are forced to deal with the reprieve he says the government was initially aware the traffic courts will not be able to manage the reprieve. Watch the report:
