NSWMA Begs For Patience To Clear Truck Load Of Garbage

NSWMA begs for patience to clear two hundred (200) truck load of garbage backlog

The National Solid Waste Management Authority, NSWMA, says it’s working to restore normal garbage collection in several communities following delays. The authority has announced a collection schedule for communities in Kingston, St. Andrew, and St. Catherine as part of an extensive programme to regularize garbage collection following recent heavy rains.

For the past two months, some residents have not had their garbage collected.

For marooned communities, the national solid waste management authority is encouraging residents to bury their biodegradable waste, such as fruits and vegetable peels, papers, grass cuttings among other items that can break down in the environment.

According to the NSWMA, the heavy rainfall has affected the collection schedule. Executive Director Audley Gordon says collection is at least 200 loads behind.

The NSWMA , on Friday launched a special operation to clear the backlog in communities along  sections of the Washington Boulevard in St Andrew and on the weekend, communities in Kingston and St. Catherine.

In Caymanas Gardens, residents complain of a dump that is inaccessible to the garbage trucks.

The sanitation workers could not assist, but this man who operates a small business close by explains the residents are the source of the problem.
