The National Environment and Planning Agency, NEPA has issued a notice of intention to suspend the Jamaica Zoo Attractions Limited. The zoo is therefore ordered closed to the public effective June 1, until the company complies with the conditions cited in the notice. According to the notice, the Jamaica Zoo failed to ensure that members of staff handling animals were properly trained.
It also adds that the attraction has not been submitting an animal nutrition and welfare programme.
The zoo is also reportedly in contempt of accounting for species held and engaging in competent technical skillsets to assist with operations. More details in this report:
