More COVID-19 Deaths Likely With 4th Wave Peak

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor McKenzie is urging Jamaicans to get vaccinated. This, she notes the historic near 12- hundred cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday. She’s also predicting some 11 thousand 500 infections during the peak of the fourth wave in the next two to three weeks. More deaths and a possible overrun of hospital beds are also projected.

Dr. Bisasor-McKenzie is warning Jamaicans to prepare for the worst in light of rising COVID-19 infections and far from acceptable vaccination rates. She says bed occupancy levels in hospitals are again on the rise. Noting the surge began in the last two to three weeks around the same time the fourth wave of infections began.

Meanwhile, the CMO says the bulk of the deaths since the fourth wave were among COVID-19 patients who were unvaccinated. She is predicting even more deaths in coming weeks if the infections continue to climb at their current rate.
