Following Jamaica’s health care system being plunged into crisis mode, due to oxygen shortage. The occurred as a result of the peak in the third wave of COVID-19 infections. The government has since made extra effort to prepare for the possibility of a fourth wave.  

Additionally, he says the government has again partnered with the United Nations children’s fund (UNICEF) which has agreed to supply an oxygen plant that will be housed at the St. Ann’s bay hospital. 

While cautioning citizens not to become complacent, Dr. Tufton further notes that the ministry will be extending staff contracts, adding that there will also be increased bed capacity in time for the New Year.
