Minister Robert Montague: Student Train Service on Track

The long-awaited school train service is back on track; the service officially launched on Monday; January 10 has been described as a success by the then Transport Minister Robert Montague.  Many gathered to witness the official launch of the student train service, as they arrived in Spanish Town St. Catherine.

Upon exiting the train, the six students who utilized the service were greeted by escorts who showed them to the designated Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus responsible for taking them to school. Speaking at the gathering, Minister Robert Montague says he is confident more students will soon begin to use the service.

Montague says the train is permitted by the Health Ministry to transport up to four hundred people, in light of maintaining COVID-19 protocols.  However, he’s hopeful that the number will increase over time.

The student train is a cashless system that’s promised to be cost-effective.

Meanwhile, Montague is calling for the rails to be extended to facilitate a multi-modal transport system for regular passengers.
