Black River Mayor Derrick Sangster is urging calm after police and residents clashed recently over the shooting death of men believed to be linked to a gang in the parish.
The Mayor says while technology has proven useful it will require an ‘all hands on deck’ approach to stem crime in the space. Mayor Sangster is acknowledging crime has been on the increase in the parish. Police confirm this is due in part to acts perpetrated by members of the speculation gang. Three alleged members of this gang were killed in a gunfight with police Tuesday afternoon.
He is urging residents to remain calm and assures them that police are doing their best in fighting crime. He says through regular meetings with the police, the municipality is kept up to date with the trends, and rates in crime. Watch the full report:
