When CVM LIVE visited Spanish Town, St. Catherine on Tuesday, mask wearing was the order of the day.
The Police, while warning some persons of the penalties for not complying, also took the time to reason with them.
According to the Operations Officer for the St. Catherine North Police Division, women are more reluctant to comply; this was also observed by our News team.
The women complained of discomfort while wearing their masks. Deputy Superintendent of Police and Operations Officer for the St. Catherine North Police Division, Paul Bernard, while warning them of the penalties for breaching the Disaster Risk Management Act also reminded them of the severity of COVID-19.
However, DSP. Bernard , says for the most part, there is about 90 percent compliance with the wearing of masks on a daily basis.
He believes that the wearing of masks is pivotal in controlling the spread of the virus.
An official report released by the Health Ministry on Monday October 12, shows that of the more than 7000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, over 4000 are females.
