In three years Jamaica is expected to cut ties with the British Monarchy, thereby becoming a republic. Marlene Malahoo Forte, who heads the newly minted Ministry of Legal and Constitutional Affairs (MLCA), on Tuesday, made the announcement in her contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament. She says her Ministry’s mandate includes spearheading the most meaningful and comprehensive post-independence constitutional reform work to be undertaken in the country.
