In this CVM LIVE follow-up, the Member of Parliament for Clarendon southeast, Pearnel Charles Junior has responded to flooding woes and claims of neglect in Longwood District Clarendon.

Pearnel Charles Junior says the community is not forgotten, adding that plans are being put in place to implement long-term sustainable solutions across the constituency.

Last Wednesday, after heavy rains from tropical storm Grace, the Longwood district in Clarendon saw damaged roads, fishing vessels, and accessories. There were amplified calls for drains and gullies to be cleaned.

A resident expressed frustration while explaining that debris always finds the streets in the district each time there are rainfalls. Another said the roads are destroyed each time there is excess water on the road, restricting vehicles and blocking different commutes in the area.

MP Pearnel Charles Jr admits that more drain and gully cleaning can be done to alleviate flooding in the area. He says there are areas that need more cleaning and communication has started in order to get additional efforts to improve the drains across the constituency.

While the Member of Parliament adds that flooding is almost unavoidable in Longwood District and other areas, he says plans are underway to implement more permanent solutions across the constituency.
