After March 7, funerals and burials will be prohibited until March 23.
The announcement has left the funeral industry in disarray as families and funeral homes explore their limited options.
President of the Funeral Directors Association of Jamaica and owner of Honeyghan Funeral Home, Melvin Honeyghan, says the Government has left funeral operators on the back burner from the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He says previous funeral restrictions have caused funeral parlors to near capacity and many of the country’s hospital morgues are out of service.
Most funeral homes charge atleast $5000 daily for storage beyond the original burial date.
The Funeral Directors’ President says he is not satisfied with how the Government has approached the matter.
Honeyghan says Monday is the busiest day he has seen since the pandemic, as families rush to bury their loved ones before March 8.
