Minister without portfolio for Economic Growth and Job Creation Matthew Samuda says fines will be increased for entities that threaten the environment. He was speaking on Rio Grande tour, the latest area to experience a chemical spill causing another fish kill.
The Rio Grande in St. Catherine has been a concern since a series of chemical spills in recent times. The incidents triggered talks for the proper infrastructure to be put in place. Touring a section of the Rio Grande, Minister Samuda told the media the issues plaguing the river are multifaceted.
Samuda says he is cognizant and saddened by the impact the latest spill has on farmers and residents who frequent the river for potable water.
