Following the return of the cruise ship to Jamaica’s dock for the first time after a near year stand still, the Mayor of Falmouth says he looking forward to more cruise arrivals. After welcoming the Emerald Princess Hamilton Cruise ship on November 8, craft vendors and tourists at the Falmouth Pier in Trelawny, expressed delight seeing the vessel back at the port.

CVM Live subsequently spoke with Falmouth Mayor, Colin Gager who says since the port’s development the arrival of ships became an integral part of people’s lives. The Mayor notes that for business persons this is most welcoming as this enables them to earn an extra dollar.

Mayor Gager lauded the security and transport sectors for making the ship’s arrival a success. He says once the COVID-19 protocols are followed he anticipates more cruise passengers. The Mayor noted that social distancing was practiced, he highlighted that though taxi and tour operators would like to earn extra, they cooperated with the measures that were in place.

Meanwhile, he is urging locals to get vaccinated, this as he notes when more Jamaicans are vaccinated it will encourage tourists to want to visit and interact in the space.
