Equipment Valued Over $9000 U.S Donated To Kingston Public Hospital

Surgical equipment valuing over $9000 U.S was recently handed over to the Kingston Public Hospital by the Guardian Group Foundation.

The funds used to purchase the equipment were raised from the 2019 Guardian Group ‘Keep It Alive’ 5K night runs.

This is the first time that the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) is a beneficiary of the corporate charitable event, which is held annually to raise funds in aid of Jamaica’s health care and education sector.

Chairman of the Guardian Group Foundation, Gladstone Lewars, notes that though it’s the first it won’t be the last.

He adds that with this donation, operations will be easier, safer and less physically demanding for surgeons.

Lewars stressed the importance of participation to charitable events, as they act as a medium for the larger public to contribute to the welfare of the populace.

Chairman of the Hospital’s Management Committee, Dr. Stephanie Reid in welcoming the donation says the KPH will continue to deliver care.

The Thompson Self-Retaining Surgical Retractor will be used particularly by the general surgery and urology departments. Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the KPH, Dr. Lindberg Simpson says the equipment will go into service immediately.
