In a shocking incident in the typically peaceful rural community of Forest, Hanover, an unfortunate turn of events unfolded as armed men opened fire on a group playing dominoes at a local shop on Tuesday evening. Among the victims is a 72-year-old farmer who, along with his son-in-law, suffered serious gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.
The incident occurred around 8:00 pm, disrupting what should have been a moment of recreation. Eyewitnesses reported that two armed individuals emerged from behind the board shop, targeting the group engaged in the game.
Upon receiving the distress call, the police promptly arrived, and both victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention. This marks the first reported shooting incident in the parish since the beginning of the year.
Residents express shock and dismay at the unexpected violence, highlighting the contrast to the generally peaceful atmosphere of the area. The parish experienced a challenging end to 2023, with 75 reported murders despite security measures implemented in and around the community.
