Custos of Westmoreland, Reverend Canon Hartley Perrin is encouraging residents there to get vaccinated and abide by the health protocols aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19. This as hospital admission rates in the parish are on the decline.
The parish of Westmoreland came under the microscope several times since the start of the pandemic, and at one point, Westmoreland had the highest infection rate in the country. CVM Live reported recently that in just two months Westmoreland saw a jump of active infections in children from 10 in July to over 90 in September. This saw 55 percent of the total infections in children in the parish happened during the third wave. For this reason, Mr. Perrin is imploring citizens to take advantage of the availability of vaccines.
Custos Perrin is giving credit to the COVID-19 containment measures implemented. Meanwhile, the Custos used the opportunity to commend members of the security force in the parish.
Speaking during a tour of vaccination sites in Westmoreland, as well as the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital in the parish recently, Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton said the uptake in vaccines shows that the message of its effectiveness against the virus, especially in lessening the probability of severe illness, is reaching the people.
