Crime Threatens Jamaica’s Social & Economic Development

Despite a range of crime and security interventions citizens are frustrated and fearful, besieging for more from the government to treat Jamaica’s crime situation.

Activities along Red Hills Road, Kingston came to a standstill early Thursday morning when the area was cordoned off to treat the scene. Reports are that a man in his 20s was shot and killed by unknown assailants in the vicinity of Pricemart.

The long-awaited National Consensus on Crime is still being pursued but will it arrive in time.  Meanwhile, the country’s social and economic growth hangs in the balance.

The Security Ministry is moving ahead with its efforts to upgrade the force through the introduction of new technology, from privately owned facial recognition cameras to investment in drones.
