Creatives Urged to Formalize Businesses

While professions like doctors, teachers, and other civil servants still represent a large percentage of the working population, the creative industry, comprising of writers, Performers, musicians, and many others, are contributing significantly to building brand Jamaica. 

Stakeholders are however concerned about the slow rate at which these services are formalized.  The recent carnival weekend in Jamaica raked in over five billion Jamaican dollars, underscoring the importance of the local entertainment, cultural and creative industries. Entertainment Minister, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange further notes the industry contributed 5.2 per cent to the island’s GDP and 3 per cent of direct and indirect employment in 2022. She firmly believes; however, these numbers represent just a fraction of the true potential of the sector and urges creatives to formalize their offerings. 

Minister Grange emphasizes the importance of looking beyond immediate gains and urges Creatives to take charge of their future and personal brands. Watch the report:
