The country’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor Mckenzie, sends warning to the public not to take the omicron virus lightly because it’s said to be a mild virus.
She says it is possible for the delta variant to be present in Jamaica that may cause severe illness. More deaths and a possible overrun of hospital beds are also projected.
The CMO is urging the people to get vaccinated. Dr. Bisasor Mckenzie is warning Jamaicans as the fourth surge of active Covid-19 cases is much higher than previous times.
Dr. Bisasor Mckenzie points out that, young adults are the ones affected the most by the virus.
Meanwhile, the CMO says over the last two weeks the number of deaths has increased. She adds that the delta variant is possibly still in the country resulting in severe illness and deaths.
