Residents of Hayes, Clarendon block a section of the Hayes main road, across from the police station, as they protest the shooting of two persons allegedly by the police Saturday night. CVM LIVE understands that a group of persons, including minors, were traveling to Lionel Town when they were signaled to stop by the police. The driver reportedly ignored the signal and the police gave chase during which the vehicle the civilians were traveling in was shot at causing the vehicle to crash. The occupants were rushed to the nearby Lionel Town Hospital, after which some were transferred to the May Pen Hospital.
As the day progressed, the Hayes main road was reblocked by residents after being cleared by police. There is increased police and military presence in sections of Hayes, as irate residents continue to protest the killing of two people, including a minor, in Lionel Town.
Political representatives are now on the scene urging calm amid the protests.
