Belnavis Push Back Against Call For Impeachment

An $80,000 charging port at the centre of the controversy involving the St Ann Mayor Michael Belnavis. But as allegations swirled about his alleged misconduct at the St Ann Municipal Corporation with the opposition calling for his impeachment, the mayor broke his silence.

“These are simple impressions, innuendos and self-serving allegations which are not based on anything but partisan overreach – A matter of fact on close examination this is nothing short of high tech lynching and good old fashion badmind.”

– His comment aimed at the shadow minister of local government, Natalie Neita who had responded to the June 3 Public Administration and Appropriations Committee meeting, saying it was a violation of public trust and gross abuse of a mayor’s office.

“The vehicle is mine, it is being used for the purposes of the municipality and it had to be plugged into to get the efficiency out of it,” Belnavis explained. ” I didn’t do anything wrong but what I am saying I have willingly taken it down because it has created too much controversy.”

Belnavis goes on to add, ” It was not unlawful as no regulations were broken.”

While Belnavis seeks to clear the air, there is another matter being investigated at the St Ann municipal corporation- the $46 million dollar allocation to sanitise public spaces. Belnavis, however, denies involvement in the bi-partisan procurement process.
