An appeal for tourists to have access to attractions – Influential players in the attractions sector are disheartened by the Government’s recent decision to reverse the Disaster Risk Management Order, now banning tourists from leaving their hotels. The operator of perhaps one of Jamaica’s largest attractions is calling on the Ministry of Health to revisit the rules, lamenting that his business especially, will suffer tremendously.
In the Disaster Risk Management order dated July 31, the government allowed, during the period August 7 to September 30 for tourists to leave their hotels to visit any approved amusement park, water park, or water attraction, located within the resilient corridor, all while using COVID-19 certified transportation. However, in an update on August 5, the government reversed the order, once again restricting tourists to their hotel areas.
