50 new garbage trucks were officially handed over to the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) on Wednesday. The elated Executive Director of the NSWMA, Audley Gordon, says in addition to the 50 trucks, 10 new bikes were also given to the Agency’s new enforcement officers to effectively target perpetrators who breach the Anti-Litter Act.
Excitement also spread among the workers, who say they foresee increased productivity in the Agency’s garbage collection efforts moving forward.
Acknowledging the setbacks in the procurement of the trucks in the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke says the government’s delivery of the trucks signals the resilience of the country’s economy.
Meanwhile, other strategies to mitigate incessant littering include the new NSWMA app, which officials are urging citizens to use to report those who continue to improperly dispose of their garbage. Watch the report below for more details here:
