48 Hour Curfew Imposed on Sections of St. Catherine

A 48-hour curfew has been imposed on sections of Southborough in Portmore, St. Catherine following recent shootings and reprisals in the area. The curfew began on march 10 and is set to end on march 12. Councilor for the division, Ainsley Parkins is in support of the latest extension. A 6pm curfew has been imposed in sections of the Southborough community, as the area has experienced an uptick in crime.

CVM Live understands the community has not seen a curfew in several years; however it is being welcomed by residents and the councilor, who is commending the police on the move. He says the recent criminal activities are reprisals after nine houses were shot up and one person injured on Monday.

Parkins says he has attempted to diffuse the conflict but that didn’t work. He says although he supports the curfew, he sees it as a band-aid to patch up the problem. He urges the police to do some investigative work to find the culprits before the 48-hour curfew is lifted. He says the police must get justice, as the family whose house was fired at may continue seeking reprisals, thus putting the community at more risk. The curfew runs north along Braeton Parkway from the intersection of Newland Road to Germaine Road, east along Germaine Road from Braeton Parkway to the southern boundary, south along an imaginary line from Germaine Road to Newland Road and west along Newland Road to Braeton Parkway.
