Government Senator Charles Sinclair is dismissing claims that the Holness administration is targeting dancehall music with the Broadcasting Commission’s recent ban on music promoting illegal activities.
The Senator says comments like those should be halted, especially when it is from political representatives. He says having clean content cannot be a partisan discussion, as he reiterates that music continues to influence some Jamaicans.
He recalls it was under the People National Party’s administration that certain musical content was criminalized a few years ago.
Senator Sinclair insists that artistes, in expressing creativity must be responsible. He also notes freedom of expression should not be viewed as absolute.
The Senator urges the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica to strongly enforce the ban, commending them for the move.
