Understanding Insulin Resistance

Insulin is a hormone made by your pancreas, which controls the amount of glucose in your bloodstream at any given time. Did you know that our body requires glucose to function properly?

Insulin resistance is when cells in your muscles, fat, and liver do not respond well to insulin. However, this can be disrupted by not having enough and that can affect our organs and cells; which leads us to ask the question, what is insulin resistance all about? and why is it important to our body?

Dr. Patrice Francis-Emmanuel, internist and endocrinologist at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) will educate us more.
